Next Steps

The bond has passed, the votes have been canvassed, so what's next? Now the real work begins! We will use this site to keep the parents, students and community members informed about the upcoming events and decisions as we move toward accomplishing the tremendous task set before us. 11/20/14 - Board Workshop #1 was held. CLICK HERE for a copy of the minutes.

11/21/14 - Design Team Committees for all upcoming projects were developed and committee members were appointed.  These committees will meet, gather information, and make recommendations to the architects to bring to the Board.

12/3/14 - The first round of meetings were held for the Elementary Campuses Design Team, the WJH Design Team, and the DHS Design Team,

12/9/14 - Board Workshop #2 was held. The sites for the two new elementary campuses was determined. CLICK HERE for a copy of the minutes.

12/10/14 - Design Teams for the new elementary campuses, the middle school additions and the high school additions met to see the updated plans presented by the architects. Additional suggestions were made from the design teams, and the latest revisions will be brought to the Board at the next meeting (12/16).

12/16/14 - Ron Bailey (PBK) presented the schematic designs for the two new elementary campuses, and the Board of Trustees approved those designs with the understanding that changes can still be made (if needed/desired) well into construction. Additionally, Mr. Bailey shared drafts of the schematic designs for the additions at DHS and WJH, discussed the  progress on selecting a Construction Manager, and reported on the upcoming Design Team meeting dates.

1/13/15 - Board Workshop #3 was held. Ron Bailey, with PBK, updated the Board on the Design Team meetings and progress. Additionally, the Board approved the hiring of Marshall Construction as the Constuction Manager -at-Risk for a number of projects. CLICK HERE to see a copy of the minutes.

2/17/15 - At the regular February meeting, Ron Bailey and Sofia Dusek (PBK) presented the schematic designs for WJH and DHS. Some changes had been made from the previous meeting, with significant input from the Design Teams. The Board accepted the schematic designs as presented. They also shared some of the internal changes that have been made to the new elementary campus designs, discussed the bus and car traffic and flow at each, and showed some images depicting the color schemes chosen for those new buildings. Additionally, the Board approved using a Competitive Sealed Proposal Delivery Method for both the Rodeo Arena project and the Running Track Resurfacing project. 

3/17/15 - At the regular March meeting, Dr. Johnson updated the Board and attendees on the progress of the current projects. some of the items discussed included the following:

  • WWJH Food Service Kitchen redesign- Mr. Morrison met with Food Service Staff and discussed the redesign, expansion, and upgrades for the current kitchen, the 6th grade serving lines, and expanded dry/cold storage. Next meeting will be March 18 to see the updated drawings based on their suggestions.
  • Auditorium design meeting- Mr. Bonner met with the DHS Fine Arts staff for their input concerning the sound, technical, and backstage/stage wings layouts, scene shop, storage, lobby and sound control box. Next meeting will be March 18 for the folks to see the updated drawings.
  • WWJH- Mechanical, Electric, Plumbing, and Technology meeting along with the Architectural outlay design. Met with Mr. Bailey and discussed the Mechanical Systems, Electrical, Lighting, Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems. They also discussed the Informational Systems (fire alarm system, structured cabling, etc.).
  • DHS - Mechanical, Electric, Plumbing, and Technology meeting along with the Architectural outlay design. Met with Mr. Bailey and discussed the Mechanical Systems, Electrical, Lighting, Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems. They also discussed the Informational Systems (fire alarm system, structured cabling, etc.).

5/28/15 - Groundbreaking! What an exciting day!! Staff, students, current and former Board members, architects, project and construction managers, CAC Committee members, and community members attended the ceremonies. 

6/15/15 - Meetings have been ongoing almost weekly with the various Design Teams, the PBK staff, the DBR staff, Marshall Construction, and other vendors/suppliers. Updates have been given to the Board several times per month. Progress continues!
