The current grade span configuration of our campuses was presented along with "Best Practices" recommendations.

CURRENT

  • Grade Spans/Transitions
    • Pre-K (Colbert Elementary)
    • K-1st (Stephen F. Austin Elementary)
    • 2nd-3rd (Richter Elementary)
    • 4th-5th (Kimmie M. Brown Elementary)
    • 6th (Nottingham Middle School)
    • 7th-8th (Wilson Junior High)
    • 9th-12th (Dayton High School)
  • New accountability penalizes 1-grade campuses
  • Significant time on buses
  • Students lose ground with each transition
  • Programs spread throughout the district

BEST PRACTICES

  • Research recommends K-5 configuration

  • Vertical alignment improves performance

  • Program (Bilingual/ESL, Special Education, Gifted and Talented, Fine Arts, etc.) would be seamless & strengthen performance

  • Research shows students’ social and emotional stability increases (sense of belonging)

  • Less time on buses
